Taking responsibility
It is only human to take credit for anything good that happens and
blame the bad on someone else. Or to deliberately ignore or suppress
the bad things in your life as a survival strategy – “Look on the bright
side!” To take full responsibility is to do both: keep believing that you
will prevail in the end, regardless of the difficulties, and at the same
time confront the most brutal facts of your current reality, whatever
they may be. One of the unfortunate legacies of our past is that people
have an excuse for not becoming all that they can be.
However understandable this may be it will unfortunately not lead
to success. Taking full responsibility takes the evil of the past and the
present into account and says: “I am the one who determines the suc-
cess or the failure of my studies.” It means developing a tough mind,
tough enough to embrace the reality that every part of your life and
present situation belongs to you – good, bad, ugly and everything in
between, every day, 365 days a year.
A successful person blames no one
and no one who places blame will
ever become successful.
